JEWELLERY CARE GUIDE
At GUZZALONI we believe that caring for your jewellery is essential to preserving its beauty and ensuring its longevity, whilst it is a natural part of the life cycle of a handmade object to show signs of wear and tear, by following these simple guidelines you will help keep your jewellery looking radiant for years to come.
Protecting your jewellery from impact against hard or abrasive surfaces is important. The gemstones are the most vulnerable part of a ring as they are softer than the metal that holds it. Removing precious jewellery before exercise, gardening, and housework is advisable. Wearing rings set with gemstones during these activities can result in abrasion across the surface of the gemstones; this can be seen in the form of scratches and chips.
Extreme temperatures, ultrasonic cleaning, cosmetic products and household chemicals may also damage the colour, clarity or lustre of gemstones. The care and, ultimately, the condition of the precious materials is the responsibility of the client. Gemstone set items will require occasional cleaning to ensure that the gemstone continues to reflect its true colour and cut.
Swimming - Prolonged submergence in water, particularly in hot temperatures, can negatively impact some alloys and stones. Pool chemicals can also degrade materials and cause further damage to gemstones. Whilst exposure to set water may not cause immediate harm, it is not recommended to go in the ocean wearing your GUZZALONI jewellery.
Sleeping - It’s not recommended to sleep with any piece of jewellery that has a high profile as these can get caught and bent, Chains and statement earrings are at risk of tangling, stretching and bending so we advise that you take care if you choose to sleep in your jewellery.
Hands on work - Depending on your professional life, you will need to carefully assess whether your piece should be worn during working hours. If in doubt about whether you should wear your piece in a specific situation, be safe and take it off.
Storing - When not being worn you should store your jewellery carefully. Ensure that all chains are individually stored to avoid tangling and knotting, and that stone pieces aren’t subject to being knocked or rubbing on other pieces. If possible, store each piece of jewellery in a way that it is not in direct contact with other materials or jewellery to avoid scratching. Sterling silver and some 9ct golds can experience oxidisation when unworn for long periods of time and will require re polishing to return to their original colours
Should you have any enquiries about the finish or condition of your jewellery as well as cleaning including our cleaning services please do not hesitate to contact the studio at info@guzzaloni.com.
Cleaning - A simple way to clean your jewellery is to place the item in a small bowl in warm water (not boiling) diluted with a dash of dishwashing detergent. Running a soft toothbrush on the underside of a ring, below where gemstones are set, will help dislodge a build-up of dirt and oils from your skin.
